Get ready for a ride into history. The community of White City on the southern border of Fort Pierce is named for the utopian Great White City built by architect Daniel Burnham for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The community’s main road is Midway Road after the fair’s Midway Plaisance, a wide boulevard which formed the mile-long entertainment center. Be sure to check out White City Park a relaxing outdoor experience with “Old Florida” scenery.
When you visit White City stop at the White City Mercantile on Midway Road which has had a long and varied history and was once a post office. Today, you can enjoy visiting its rooms and finding collectables of all kinds.
Just west of the Mercantile you’ll find the delightful Feathered Nest gift shop open for browsing, and just east of the Mercantile you’ll see Sisters Too with their unique home furnishings, located in a small plaza on the corner of Oleander Avenue. And don’t miss Nelson’s Family Farms, an open-air produce market featuring local produce, a plant nursery and more.
