Fishing

Get your fishing rods and tackle boxes ready! St. Lucie offers world-class fishing, with catches of trophy snook, tarpon, and redfish inshore, or sailfish and kingfish offshore.

St. Lucie, most notably Fort Pierce, is world-renowned for its fishing. The action is hot — inshore and off — in Fort Pierce.  With such a diverse list of fish species and ways to catch them, there is nonstop action for anglers of all skill levels.

Fishermen descend on Fort Pierce with rods and reels knowing that the waters can deliver big rewards, including record-breaking catches. The world record spotted sea trout, weighing 17.7 lbs., was caught in the Indian River Lagoon.

Going offshore to the deep-blue Atlantic, anglers reel in bottom fish such as grouper and snapper or troll the water’s surface for mahi mahi, kingfish and sailfish. Staying inshore on the Indian River Lagoon is just as action-packed. This biologically diverse estuary is a fertile feeding ground for spotted sea trout, snook, trout, snapper, black drum and flounder.

Don’t have a boat? Visitors looking to learn the sport can easily cast lines from jetties flogging Fort Pierce Inlet. Beaches are another great place to hook a keeper.

Anglers love Fort Pierce for its variety of species and amenities like multiple marinas, free public boat ramps, bait and tackle shops, cleaning stations, charter boats and fishing guides, and superb hotels — offering fishing piers or overnight boat slips — will keep you coming back for more.
